Estimate the number of wall studs from the wall length and on-center spacing (16 or 24 in).
How it works
studs = ceiling((wall_length_ft x 12) / onCenter_in) + 1.
Worked example
A 20 ft wall at 16 in on center: ceil(240 / 16) + 1 = 15 + 1 = 16 studs.
When to use it
- This is the field count only — add studs for each corner, partition tee, and the extra jack and king studs at every door and window opening.
- Framing is 16 in on center by default; 24 in is common for non-bearing or advanced-framed walls.
